PATTI SHAFFNER performs a wide variety of musical styles including Folk, Blues, Jazz, Theater, and Improvisational Singing with ease. She writes and performs her own music, solo as well as collaboratively. As a seasoned performer, Patti is dynamic and engaging on stage. Her music is thought provoking and reaches out to the heart of our longing for connection with love and hope. She puts her heart and soul into whatever she sings.
She has studied improvisational singing with both Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon and is skilled at leading groups of all ages in the style of spontaneous song known as ‘Circle Singing.’
Patti performs solo, with SongSisters: Amy Dixon-Kolar and Sue Fink and with Jazz musicians Leandro Lopez Varady, Scott Pazera, Lannie Turner, Bill Romer, Buddy Pearson and with the Andy Sutton Trio.
LEANDRO LÓPEZ VÁRADY was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
López Várady graduated from the Catholic University of Argentina (UCA) as Licentiate in Music, majoring in Composition with a Gold Medal and Awards. From 1996 to 2000 Leandro traveled Asia as part of the Eldeé Young Quartet. He moved to Chicago, USA in 1999.
López Várady has performed at festivals around the world, including the Chicago Jazz Festival; the Detroit Jazz Festival; “Made in Chicago “Festival in Poznan, Poland; Havana Jazz Festival in Havana, Cuba and the 57th International Festival in Ruse, Bulgaria. Leandro received a Gold Record Award for his participation in Mietek Szcześniak’s “Nierówmi” album. He is the Music Director/Pianist for the Lookingglass’ stage production “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” directed by Mary Zimmerman. Currently, López Várady is the pianist for the Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic. He also is a member of Doug Lofstrom & New Quartet, Steve Hashimoto’s “Sueños”, Juli Wood’s “Chicago Calling” and the Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre Music Ensemble.
SCOTT PAZERA has been playing bass guitar, standard guitar, and acoustic bass for over 30 years and is a motivated instructor, small business owner and spirited performer, Scott has been performing publicly with his own jazz groups and often works as a sideman to some of the top performers in Chicago and Indianapolis. Scott has performed and/or recorded with artists such as Rich Little, Veruca Salt, CeCe Peniston, Med Flory (Supersax), Fareed Haque, Henry Johnson, Bill Lancton, Byron Stripling, Rachel Yamagata, James Russell, Satya Graha, Mike Mandell, and many others.
This event is part of the LIVE ON LAKE STREET live music series presented by the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District. The program presents live music at the Marshall J Gardner Center for the Arts on the 3rd Thursday of each month, September thru April.
