South Shore SOUP is coming to the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District Thursday 11/3 from 6-9pm.
Soup, ideas, networking, revitalizing neighborhoods. Grassroots economic development and placemaking. That’s what SOUP is all about.
Contribute $5 at the door for a bowl of soup, a piece of bread and a ballot. As you dine, you’ll hear Gary residents or those interested in doing projects in Gary present various kinds of new projects — including public arts, local food initiatives and small business startups — in Gary. At the end of the SOUP, the crowd votes, and a winner gets the cash collected at the door — an instant micro-grant. It will be augmented by a small grant from Legacy Foundation as well.
People who submitted other proposals will be encouraged to discuss how they might be able to work together to bring their start up or neighborhood revitalization ideas to fruition.
Be a part of the revitalization of your community, and network amongst interesting like-minded people.
Borrowed from a very successful model in Detroit, SOUP has now come to Northwest Indiana. The first SOUP was held in Michigan City, and the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District is thrilled to partner with South Shore SOUP and the C-Lab to bring the second community dinner and micro-funding project generation workshop to the community of Gary, IN.
