For the Good

Works by Aonna Jones

Marshall J. Gardner Center For The Arts

February 7 – March 14

Opening Reception: Friday, February 7, 6pm – 8pm

Artist Talk: Saturday, Feb. 8 2pm

There are a lot of moments in life that feel like a slight haze. Memories aren’t as vivid and emotions turn them into smoke that we’re left to interpret. Yet, somehow as the smoke fades, all of the memories combine into one. “For the Good” explores interconnectivity of individuals joined by what is unseen, knowing that it all works together for the good. In this exhibit, themes of memory and connection are explored through a type of portraiture, painted in oil, on uniquely shaped, wood ‘canvases’ so that each piece is a world unto itself.

Northwest Indiana oil painter, Aonna Jones, revisits her childhood through motherhood to reshape the way memories in adolescence and moments spent in mothering are connected. As a self-taught artist, she takes every experience in creating as an opportunity to lean on her faith to pull nostalgic heart strings and dig deeper into her imagination. Aonna combines lessons in woodworking with her BFA in graphic design to scroll canvases that give her pieces a one of a kind shape and composition. Primarily painting in oils has graced her with room to cherish her time in creating and let each piece take its own path.

Exhibitions and associated events are free and open to the public.
