The Miller Beach Arts & Creative District is showcasing the work of well-known local painters Tom Brand and Carole Stodder, who have exhibited together and separately in museums and art centers across the Region and both have works in museum collections.
“Dual Insights: Carole Stodder and Tom Brand – Paintings” opens at The Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts at 540 S. Lake St. in Gary’s lakefront Miller neighborhood on May 18 and runs through June 17.
This exhibit is a large sample of the body of work each artist has created in recent years as residents in Northwest Indiana”, says Stodder. “It will reveal a dual approach to their creative vision and their mastery of the art of painting. Theirs is a contrast in vision but not a contradiction — they share an interest in strong composition and form and the fine crafting of their medium.” “Each artist has established a strong reputation as a contemporary artist working in an abstract manner. In opposing techniques, Brand works in oil on panel while Stodder paints in acrylic on canvas. The scope of their work and the number of pieces on display will make for an exciting viewing experience.
The Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts is open from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (773) 822-8086
