Join a fun high-energy workshop on traditional African dance! Dance instructor Kposivi Clark and drummer Baba Olabisi will lead participants through a warm-up and then share community dances Funga [Welcome dance] and Mandiani [Celebration dance] … so dress comfortably…Ase!
Glenda “Kposivi” Clark and Baba Olabisi are members of the African Descendants Society of Gary, Indiana, a group formed in the ’80s with a mission to provide insight into African and African American culture through storytelling, rhythm, and dance. Members have provided workshops, presentations, and performances for civic/social organizations, educational institutions, and the public. Kposivi developed a dance curriculum to enhance the learning experience for Lighthouse Academy K-8 for 4 years and has performed in Guatemala and Benin, West Africa. Baba and Kposivi presented a show for local cable TV entitled “Spirit Moves” showing Afrocentric moves for exercise.
