Crazy Indiana Style Artists (CISA): Four Decades of Regional Impact
In Northwest Indiana, where industrial steel landscapes meet the shoreline of Lake Michigan, the Crazy Indiana Style Artists (CISA) have established a powerful creative identity. More than a collective, CISA represents a mentality shaped by resilience, community, and authenticity. For over four decades, they have transformed the region’s public art landscape, grounding their work in place-based storytelling.
CISA originated from the In Style Artists (ISA), an early graffiti crew nearly 100 members strong, driven by competitive camaraderie and a commitment to refining technique. Their shift from ISA to CISA marked a transition from street practice to a broader creative network centered on murals, public installations, pop‑up exhibitions, and live painting events—projects that reclaim overlooked spaces and place art directly within everyday environments.
The group reflects Northwest Indiana’s distinct visual language, shaped by post-industrial terrain, working-class histories, and urban culture. Their membership spans painters, muralists, graffiti writers, photographers, designers, DJs, and dancers—united by an ethos prioritizing expression over convention.
